The Genesis: The Map is Incomplete

The journey of The Unpinned Map began not with a grand vision, but with a nagging sense of absence. Our founder, like many travelers, followed the well-worn paths—the Golden Triangle, the major hill stations, the coastal metropolises. Yet, on a quiet trek through a remote corner of Uttarakhand, it became clear: the India celebrated by mainstream media and tourism boards was only a fraction of the whole.

We realized that vast, complex, and stunningly beautiful regions of the country—regions with unique languages, millennia-old histories, and vibrant local cultures—were entirely absent from the digital map, their stories untold, their communities underserved.

The idea for The Unpinned Map was born from this frustration: If these places don't exist in our guidebooks and media, do they truly exist for the world?
